A Polson woman is in custody and has been charged with deliberate homicide following an incident Sunday night.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department reported Tuesday that county dispatchers took a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Huckleberry Lane, southeast of Polson. Lake County deputies and Montana Highway Patrol troopers responded.

Sharon Whitworth, 56, of Polson, is accused of intentionally running over Tonya Charles, 63, also of Polson, causing Charles’ death.

Whitworth was taken into custody Sunday night and placed at the Lake County Detention Facility. She has been charged with deliberate homicide, a felony. Her bail was set at $250,000.

Authorities did not identify a motive, and no other details were available Tuesday afternoon.
