Volleyball Roundup: Pirates, Maidens stay the course
The Polson and Ronan volleyball teams made short work of teams at or near the bottom of the Northwest A standings last week while maintaining their spots as the clear frontrunners of the conference.
Both teams won a pair of matches without losing a set.
LaReina Cordova led the Maidens (6-2, 10-2) with 13 kills and 11 digs, and Leina Ulutoa had 19 assists in a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over Whitefish on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Hannah Rowe added 13 assists.
On Thursday, Olivia Clairmont had a team-high nine kills and Rylie Lindquist had 19 digs as Ronan swept Columbia Falls 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
Also Thursday, the Lady Pirates (8-0, 10-1) got 13 kills from Mckenna Hanson and nine from Camilla Foresti in a 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 victory against Whitefish (1-8, 2-11). Hanson also had three of Polson’s nine aces. Avery Starr and Grace Simonich combined for 29 assists.
Polson capped off the week with a 25-11 25-14 25-13 win Saturday at Browning.
Liz Tolley had nine kills, Hanson had seven and Foresti hit on six aces for the Lady Pirates.
Both teams have regular season home finales on Thursday, Oct. 28. The Pirates host Columbia Falls (4-5, 7-6), while the Maidens host Libby (6-2, 6-5). Then they both travel to wrap up the regular season Saturday, when Polson visits Libby and Ronan heads to Browning.
There will be a district play-in game Monday night, and the divisional tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 4 at Ronan.
