A Polson man residing in Aurora, Colo., was taken into custody Sunday morning and charged with first-degree murder following the death of a 20-year-old woman.

Officers responded to a report of an injured woman at an apartment in south Aurora, a suburb of Denver, around 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release from the Aurora Police Department.

Officers found a 20-year-old woman suffering from apparent physical trauma at the apartment. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Dakota Chinnock, 20, was detained at the same apartment after detectives from the department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit responded to investigate.

Authorities were withholding her name while the coroner’s office finishes notifying her relatives.

Chinnock attended Polson High School and was most recently employed as a technician at Brakes Plus, according to Facebook. His past jobs included stints at Midas and Stageline Pizza.

Chinnock was booked into the Arapahoe County Detention Center on a first-degree murder charge. He has a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Detectives will continue their investigation and are asking anyone who has information about this incident, who have not yet spoken to police, to please reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
