Calling all superheroes to Dayton Daze

Dayton Daze, an annual family-friendly fundraiser in Dayton, will be held on Saturday. Festivities kick off with a parade at noon, followed by a rifle raffle, kids’ games, beer garden, free hot dogs and cookies, and a costume contest. This year’s theme: first responders are superheroes. This is the 30th Dayton Daze celebration. Proceeds benefit the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department and Quick Response Unit.

Memorial at The People's Center site

A memorial gathering to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the fire at The People’s Center will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the site of the fire, 56633 U.S. Highway 93 in Pablo. Attendees are asked to bring a chair. A light lunch will be provided.

“We are asking for your continued support, and for prayer leaders, cultural leaders, dancers and drummers and the tribal and non-tribal community to be with us this day,” staff members said in a statement on the Char-Koosta website. “We ask Creator to continue to help us, continue to guide us in our steps to heal and continue our mission as Three Chiefs Culture Center. To continue our work not only for ourselves but for all the people and for our ancestors who laid the paths and held our histories and stories.”

Day of service event to honor 9/11

Flathead Lake State Park is holding a service day in remembrance of the lives lost during the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Wayfarers Unit in Bigfork will host this service day from 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm. Saturday. Geared for all ages, the 9/11 Remembrance Day of Service will be free and involve numerous service projects at the Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park. The projects include trail improvements, noxious weed pulling, trash pick-up and picnic table staining (weather permitting).

Birthday celebration at Ronan brewery

The Ronan Cooperative Brewery is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a two-day birthday bash this weekend. Friday’s festivities include live music from the 440’s, yard games and food in the beer garden. On Saturday there will be a live musical comedy show with Michael Glatzmaier and Deece Casillas, who are making a stop on their Nearly Famous Comedy Tour in Ronan for a special adult show. Tickets for the show cost $10 and may be purchased online at tinyurl.com/h3xarymt.

Tailgate party for Ronan hall of fame

The Ronan Booster Club will host a tailgate party starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the high school parking lot prior to the Chiefs’ home football game against Columbia Falls. Hot dogs, burgers, salads, chips and dessert will be provided for a minimum donation of $7. All proceeds support the school’s hall of fame project.

‘Famous Garage Sale’ at Polson Church

Polson United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E., is holding its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Items for sale will include books for 25 cents, children’s furniture, jewelry, exercise equipment, kitchen and household items, and much more.

Audubon Society meeting to highlight cicadas

Featured speaker Dr. David Manuwal will give a presentation on cicadas at the Sept. 13 virtual meeting of the Flathead Audubon Society.

Cicadas are large insects that are found all over the United States but there are only five species in Montana.

Manuwal visited Indiana in June and was able to experience their impressive emergence firsthand. He will talk about what he observed, the natural history of cicadas and the impact of birds on cicadas.
