Community Notes: Food drive with Friday's game

Food for football

Friday night (Sept. 17) is Stuff the Truck Night at the Ronan vs. Polson football game in Polson.

Providence St. Joseph is co-sponsoring the event with the schools. Anyone who brings two or more cans of non-perishable food items will be admitted for free. All non-perishable food items will be donated to the Polson Loaves & Fish Pantry. Gates open at 6 p.m. and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Harvest Fest time in Ronan

The 2021 Ronan Harvest Festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 on the lawn outside of Glacier Bank.

This year’s hay bale contest is already underway (see page B8 for photos). Voting opens during the Harvest Festival and runs through Sept. 22.

The festival includes a petting zoo, kids’ games, concessions, live music and a vendor market. There also will be a cornhole tournament and the Ronan Cooperative Brewery will have beer available for purchase.

Bear and Cider Festival

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ Wildlife Management Program is sponsoring a Mission Valley Bear and Cider Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Salish Kootenai College Event Center in Pablo.

Instructors will lead sessions on fruit gleaning and bear safety at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Bear specialists will be on hand to answer questions, and free cider pressing will be available.
