Lady Pirates roll past Whitefish, Browning

The Polson volleyball team won two more matches last week without losing a set and improved to 5-1 heading into Homecoming week.

Saturday on their home court at Linderman School, the Lady Pirates (5-1, 3-0) built early leads in each set and never looked back against Browning (1-4, 0-3), which listed nine seniors on its roster of 12 players.

Polson opened the first set with a 10-4 run, jumped out to 13-6 in the second and led 12-2 in the third.

Camilla Foresti led the Lady Pirates with 10 aces and Grace Simonich added seven against the Lady Indians. Sophomore Avery Starr contributed 14 assists.

Leading 15-5 in the third set, sophomore Mckenna Hanson took over serve for Polson and nearly took it the distance. Browning suffered a series of miscues and Hanson served an ace while extending the lead to 23-6.

Junior Clara Todd eventually finished off the set, and the match, with a kill for a 25-7 win in the third.

Polson was without senior Liz Tolley, who was attending her sister’s wedding. Lucy Violett got the start in Tolley’s place and managed five kills in the victory.

Tolley led the way with nine kills in another three-set sweep at Whitefish (0-7, 0-4) on Thursday, while Foresti added eight and Hanson managed six.

The Lady Pirates had 30 team kills to Whitefish’s 12. Simonich led Polson with 16 assists, and Starr added 10.

Polson was set to take on Columbia Falls (5-3, 2-2) on the road Tuesday night before hosting Libby (3-3, 3-0) on Saturday for Homecoming. They’ll host Ronan (5-1, 2-1) the following Saturday.
