Mary Azure Clairmont Jessen, 85

Mary Azure Clairmont Jessen, 85, passed away Sept. 21 at St. Luke’s Extended Care.

The last of the Azure Clan, she was one of 22 children and a direct descendant of Chief Sitting Bull.

Born to Katherine and Ben Azure on Oct. 7, 1935 in Poplar, Mont., she was raised in Wolf Point. Mary was educated at Flandreau School in South Dakota and graduated from Ronan High School.

She married Robert Clairmont, who passed away in 1988. She then remarried Richard Jessen in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 2, 2000.

Mary is best known locally for working as a daycare owner and as a bartender at the Pheasant Bar. She loved all animals, especially her Sam and Teenie, cooking, sewing and cribbage. She loved seeing all the cute kids on Halloween and giving them candy.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Corinne Couture, and her sister and partner in crime, Edna Rose.

Survivors include her husband and her children: Robert (Lori) Clairmont; Steve Clairmont and his children, Travis, Sarah and Steven; Jim Clairmont and his children, Jason, Adam, Aaron and Kaitlin; Carla Clairmont and her children, Daffney, Jackson, and Dallas; John (Tiffany) Jessen; and Cody (Angie) Jessen and daughter, Angel; She also is survived by 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, Sept. 25 at Spirit of God Church in Ronan.
