View from the Library: Egg hunt registration underway
It’s National Library Week, which runs from April 4-9, and this year’s theme is “Connect with Your Library.” According to this year’s honorary chair, Molly Shannon, the theme promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology, media, programs, ideas, classes and books. Most importantly, libraries also connect people and communities to each other.

We will be closing early, at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8 for a staff workshop and to prepare for our egg hunt on Saturday, April 9. We will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are sorry for the inconvenience. So what about the egg hunt? The library is hosting an easy indoor spring egg hunt for children age 8 and younger. This is a ticketed event due to building size constraints. Children must have a ticket to participate in the egg hunt, so pick them up at the library by April 8. Along with the egg hunt, Felicia will have a special story time, and we’ve arranged for the Bunny to make an early appearance for photos. Story time and photos do not require a ticket. The program starts at 9 a.m. and the bunny will be available for photos until 10 a.m. The egg hunt will take place in the library, so if you are coming to browse, pick up a hold or stay awhile, you might wait until about 9:15 a.m.
Are you writing a novel, a memoir, or a collection of poems? Then come explore the digital side of self-publication, including formatting your work, creating book covers, ordering hard copies and selling online. April’s tech program is “A Beginner’s Guide to Self-Publishing.” The program begins at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 in the library meeting room.
The library has joined the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” initiative to increase childhood literacy. Sign up at northlakecountylibrary.readsquared.com to log your progress and collect prizes along the way for both the kids and parents or caregivers. The program is open to children from birth until they begin kindergarten. Reading to your child fosters a love of reading at an early age and is a wonderful bonding activity.
Don’t forget, Mother Goose Mondays begin at 9:15 a.m. for the 0-3 crowd, and Story Time Thursdays begin at 9:15 a.m. for the 3-5 group. Participation by parents, caregivers and older siblings is always encouraged and welcome. This month the themes include rain, Easter/bunnies, Earth Day and construction. Deanna Mydland from Montana PBS will join us Monday, April 25 for a special music-themed Mother Goose.
Taxes are due April 18. We have the IRS Instruction Booklets and 1040 forms in the library. Montana does not provide printed forms or booklets for state income taxes.
