Bigfork teams sweep chilly Dilly Bar meet

RONAN — Bigfork’s big numbers and impressive speed led to a sweep of the Dilly Bar Invitational track meet Saturday at Ronan.

The Vikings won 10 of 16 events while piling up 208 points to 80 for runner-up Mission; the Valkyries won 12 of 16 and had 194 points. Ronan’s girls were second out of six teams at 111.5 points.

Aside from the official results, event organizers pair teams and keep an unofficial tally of those results — the “Dilly Bar” results — with Dilly Bar ice cream treats going to the winners. This year’s groupings were Bigfork/Mission, Ronan/Superior and Polson/Charlo.

A final relay of only athletes who competed in the throwing events also helps determine who gets the ice cream. The Bigfork/Mission thrower’s team won the girls relay, while the Polson/Charlo throwers won the boys relay.

In the end, Bigfork/Mission claimed the Dilly Bars for both the boys and the girls.

The weather was reasonable early on Saturday, but the temperature dropped and the wind picked up throughout the day. Regardless, all events were completed, except the javelin, which was canceled due to field conditions.

The host team had some impressive individual efforts. Senior Adriana Tatukivei swept the 100 and 200 meters. Fellow Maidens senior Olivia Heiner finished first in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. Senior Leina Ulutoa won the 300 meter hurdles, finished third in the 300 hurdles and was second in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 11 inches. Ulutoa also was part of a 4x400 relay team, along with Tatukivei, Heiner and Lauryn Buhr — that took first place.

Top placers for the Ronan boys included high jumper Payton Cates, who cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to finish in a tie for first with Bigfork’s George Bucklin. Cates also finished second in the discus. Freshman Blyth Bolman managed a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Fellow freshman Connor Durglo was fourth in both the 200 meters and the triple jump, while sophomore Taigen Lindquist finished fourth in the long jump.

Polson’s Taleah Hernandez cleared 7 feet to take the girls pole vault title. Ashtyn Wagner was second in the 3,200 and third in the 200 for the Lady Pirates.

Jarrett Wilson won the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.56. Wilson also finished third in the 100. Junior Drifter Skillicorn was another top placer for the Polson boys, finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 2 inches.

Mission’s Charley Adams won the 200 meters and the long jump. He also finished second in the 200 meters. The Bulldogs also got first-place finishes from Andrew Rush in the 400 and 3,200, and Zoran LaFrombois in the 800. LaFrombois also was second in the 1,600. Canyon Sargent finished second in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 2 inches.

Mission only had three girls compete at the meet. Senior Kooper Page had the best finish of the day, a fourth place in the 800 and a sixth in the 1,600.

Charlo’s Coyle Nagy, Tucker Love, Keaton Piedalue and Hayden Hollow won the boys 4X100 relay. Piedalue also was second in the 200, while Hollow was second in the 800. Hayden Smith finished third in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. Nagy was second in the 300 hurdles behind Polson’s Wilson.

Kyla Tomlin was second in the pole vault and third in the shot put for the Lady Vikings. Her teammate, Aida Cote, finished third in the discus with a toss of 82 feet.
