Community notes: Polson church to hold spaghetti fundraiser for cancer patient
Spaghetti dinner fundraiser at Polson church
Polson Community Church, 1814 1st St. E., is hosting a spaghetti dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 29 to benefit the Luper family. A “good will offering” will be collected to help the family of Ayden Luper defray expenses that have accrued during his cancer treatments in Washington. All are welcome. There is no need to bring anything but your family and friends.
Afternoon bingo to help fund Arlee Powwow
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are hosting bingo starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 to raise funds for this year’s Arlee Powwow celebration. The game will be held at the Ronan Boys and Girls Club, 62579 Highway 93. There will be a $25 buy-in. Concessions will be available.
Turn in unwanted prescription drugs
The Drug Enforcement Administration is holding prescription drug take back events across the nation on Saturday, April 30. The event is intended to encourage the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. The local event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake County Courthouse.
Dems to gather at Glacier Brewery
The Lake County Democrats are hosting a “Seis de Mayo” party at the Glacier Brewery in Polson. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 6. Please bring an appetizer to share.
Take a walk through the wildflowers
Join a ranger for a guided hike to view the wildflowers present in local park units. Discussion will cover identification basics and how to best care for nature’s beauties and spend plenty of time admiring their loveliness. The hikes are open to people of all ages and interest levels. There will be a walk Saturday, May 7 at the Finley Point Unit, and another Saturday, May 14 at the Big Arm Unit. Both hikes begin at 9 a.m. Bring sturdy hiking shoes and adequate clothing for the weather. Attendance costs $4, and reservations are required. KOA Fun Run on the horizon
The Polson/Flathead Lake KOA 5K and 1-mile Fun Run will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at 200 Irvine Flats Road. The course is gravel and trails in a 1-mile repeating loop through KOA and open area. Entry costs $25 for adults or $10 for kids and includes a raffle ticket. Raffle prizes include a free night of camping at KOA, mini golf and pool passes, and store items. Mission West seeking co-working input
Mission West Community Development Partners is conducting a pair of surveys to better understand the needs of small businesses and workers in the region. The surveys are part of a feasibility study being completed through a grant from the USDA-Rural Business Development Grant Program to determine whether establishing a co-working space and co-working program is feasible.
