Notice of Public Comment and Availability of Visual Analysis for the Ronan Airport Wildlife Exclusion Fence The Lake County Joint Airport Board, the Ronan Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are proposing to construct a new 9foot-tall wildlife exclusion fence around the perimeter of the Ronan Airport. The purpose of the project is to improve the overall safety of the Airport by preventing deer from entering Airport property. A portion of the proposed fencing project would be adjacent to the Dupuis Barn. The Dupuis Barn was constructed in 1914. It is an important part of the local visual landscape and has been recommended as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. With the proposed project, no land would be purchased from the Dupuis Barn parcel. A temporary 2-foot-wide construction easement would be required but would not directly involve the Dupuis Barn and would be restored to a condition at least as good as that which existed prior to the project. The FAA has prepared a visual analysis to investigate potential visual impacts the proposed project might have on the Dupuis Barn. The analysis evaluated eight (8) alternative wildlife exclusion fence designs and configurations, compared potential impacts of the alternatives, and made preliminary determinations regarding the significance of those impacts. The Visual Analysis for the Ronan Airport Wildlife Exclusion Fence was prepared in accordance with the following documents:  FAA Order 1050.1F Desk Reference, Chapter 13. Visual Effects, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (Section 4(f)), and 14 CFR 77, Safe, Efficient Use, and Preservation of the Navigable Airspace. FAA’s preliminary conclusion is that visual effects of the Proposed Action would be mildly discernible, but no adverse effect to historic properties would occur, no “use” of a Section 4(f) property would occur, and no significant visual impacts would occur. FAA is seeking public input prior to making final conclusions. The Visual Analysis for the Ronan Airport Wildlife Exclusion Fence will be available for public review from November 10, 2022 through December 12, 2022. The document can be viewed at the following URL: https://marketing.m-m.net/acton/media/43143/ronan-airport or at the following physical locations: Ronan Airport Pilots Lounge, 2242 Old US HWY 93, Ronan, MT 59864 City of Ronan City Hall, 207 Main St SW A, Ronan, MT 598964 Lake County Court House, 106 4th Avenue E, Polson, MT  CSKT Tribal Historic Preservation Office, 33081 Mollman Pass Trail, Ronan, MT 59864 (CSKT offices are open Monday through Thursday, closed Friday) If you would like to request more information or provide comment, please contact Keith Belden of Morrison Maierle, Inc., 1055 Mount Ave, Missoula, Missoula, MT 59801, kbelden@m-m.net , (406) 542-4823.
