Polar Bear Plunges mark New Year
With temperatures last week dipping to nearly minus 30, it’s a safe bet that Flathead Lake is frigid. However, mere ice is unlikely to deter members of the Polson Polar Plungers from convening for their 25th annual meeting at Riverside Park at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Proper bathing attire is required (i.e. swim suits and water shoes; towels recommended for the aftershock).
The Raven in Woods Bay gets in the action too with the 22nd annual plunge. Participants parade to the lake at 1:45 p.m. and splash in at 2 p.m. The Raven opens at 10 a.m. with food, beverages and fire pits.
All ages are welcome to plunge or watch the action, although carpooling is recommended since parking can be sparse for this popular event.
