Basketball Roundup: Broncs wriggle away from surging Pirates

by Lake County Leader
| February 1, 2022 1:30 PM

The Polson Pirates put together a couple of much needed league road wins last week, and nearly capped off the week with a nonleague home win, but the boys from Frenchtown pulled away in the end Saturday for a 57-54 overtime win at Linderman Gym.

The Broncs managed an 8-5 edge in the final period. Prior to that, each quarter had ended with a margin of no more than two points.

Polson attempted to burn time off the clock in an effort to execute the final play for the game winner, but couldn't connect.

Xavier Fisher led the Pirates with 18 points in the loss. Jarrett Wilson had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Colton Graham scored 16.

Graham kicked off the week with a 32-point performance in a 69-52 win at Whitefish on Jan. 25.

The Pirates headed to Columbia Falls on Thursday and came away with a 58-47 win, bolstered by 15 points from Trent Wilson.

The Pirates sit atop the Northwest A standings along with Browning with a 5-2 conference record. Those teams will face off in Polson for the regular season finale on Feb. 12.
