Ronan wrestlers clean up at state; Pirates' Knutson places fifth

There were a couple of close calls, but no Lake County wrestlers returned with a state title from the class A state wrestling tournament in Billings last weekend.

Ronan’s Ridge Cote and Tirza TwoTeeth brought home second-place medals from the massive all-class meet.

Cote, a freshman, brought a 50-1 season record into the 113-pound boys championship match against Reece Graves of Sidney/Fairview. Graves won by fall to cap his season with the state title and a 49-3 record.

Cote’s only other loss this season came against Billings West’s Keyan Hernandez, who claimed the AA title Saturday.

TwoTeeth lost by fall to Kassidee Savaria of Billings Skyview in her title match Saturday. Savaria finished the season with a perfect 28-0 record.

The Ronan boys finished sixth in the team standings and collected an impressive haul of medals. Also placing for the Chiefs were; Koy McAllister, third at 126; Landon Bishop, fourth at 145; Caleb Cheff, fifth at 152; Tristan Fisher, fifth at 170; and Max Morency, fifth at 285.

The Maidens finished in a tie for 10th place with Sidney in the girls’ team standings. The Flathead girls took home the team title.

Besides TwoTeeth, Ronan’s Saellah Hugs also secured a medal with a sixth-place finish at 103 pounds, and Katie Dolence finished fourth at 132 pounds.

Polson’s Ryley Knutson capped his season with a fifth-place finish at 103 pounds. He finished with a pin of Browning’s Pita Fish in the fifth-place match and a 31-15 season record.
