Boulder Fire cleanup will require forest road closures
The Forestry Department of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will be implementing both fire salvage sales and timber sales in the Boulder area north of Polson on the east side of Flathead Lake.
Forestry requested and received permission from Tribal Council to close the B-2000 Road system to recreational use to include snowmobiling, other motorized vehicles use, cross country skiing and other activities that may put both loggers and recreationists at risk.
The closure will begin Tuesday, Feb. 1 and remain in effect until the roads that are being utilized by the loggers are cleared of snow and ice. After the roads have cleared, recreational use may resume on a limited basis. Roads will be posted and closed when there is active logging truck activity or when machinery will be limiting road access. Many of the mountain roads are on steep ground and are narrow. Loaded logging trucks have the right-of-way.
Both the B-1000 and B-3000 road systems will remain available for recreational use.
This policy may remain in effect through 2022. Weather and logging conditions may alter the expected closure period. For more information, contact CSKT Tribal Forestry at 406-676-3755 and/or the CSKT Tribal Game Wardens at 406-883-2888.
