Girls Roundup: Lady Pirates rout Libby

A Polson girls basketball program that went three years without a victory improved its conference record to 3-3 with a 51-30 win over visiting Libby on Saturday.

The game got off to a sluggish start. Polson led 5-1 after the first period, which saw 11 fouls called, eight against the Lady Pirates (3-3, 4-8). But the scoring picked up from there, and Polson built a 23-15 halftime lead before putting the game away with a 17-4 edge in the third.

Jazlyn Dalbey hit four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and five steals for Polson. Ari Burke scored 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Lexi Wirz had nine steals to go with seven points. Turquoise Pierre finished with six points and four rebounds.

The Lady Pirates fired off 26 3-pointers as a team, connecting on eight.

Kinzee Boehmler led the Lady Loggers (0-5, 1-10) with 14 points.

Earlier in the week, Polson led by six points after three periods at Corvallis (1-10) on Thursday before losing 62-56 in overtime.

Dalbey led Polson with 13 points and five steals, while Burke finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Wirz had nine steals to go with seven points. Pierre finished with six points and four rebounds.

The Lady Pirates’ 52 points on Thursday was their second highest scoring total in almost a decade.

Lady Bulldogs hold off Bigfork

Freshman Kason Page scored 19 points, and Kooper Page had 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Mission (3-3, 7-4) beat Bigfork 52-44 at home Saturday and handed the Valkries (6-1, 11-1) their first loss of the season.

Mission led by three at half and by seven heading into the fourth.

The Lady Bulldogs were outrebounded 49-31, but they shot lights-out and made 10 of 25 3-point attempts. Bigfork made just two of 15.

Izzy Evans had eight points and four rebounds for Mission. Madyson Currie finished with eight points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Mission hosted Troy (0-5, 0-9) the previous night and coasted to a 61-19 win. Kooper Page led with 19 points and eight steals. Currie had 11 points and 10 assists. Evans finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Maidens can’t solve Browning

Olivia Heiner scored nine points to lead Ronan as the Maidens (4-3, 7-4) lost 52-27 to first-place Browning (4-1, 7-2) on Saturday at Ronan.

Dani Coffman added eight points for Ronan, while Leina Ulutoa had six points and six rebounds.

Heiner and Ulutoa each hit a 3-pointer in the loss.

Mecca BullChild led Browning with a game-high 15 points.

Heiner also led the way with 17 points Friday night at home against Whitefish (1-4, 3-6) as the Maidens finished strong in a 38-31 conference win.

Whitefish led by a point heading into the final period, but Ronan closed with a 13-5 run to earn the win.

Coffman had 13 points and five rebounds, while Ulutoa finished with five points and five rebounds. Margaret Cordova notched six assists and five steals.

Lady Vikings cruise to two wins

Mila Hawk had six steals and scored 22 points as Charlo (7-0, 11-1) maintained its control over the conference with a 51-32 home victory against St. Regis on Friday.

Charlo’s only loss this season was early on against Class B Mission. They’ve won every other game by at least 15 points.

Kassidi Cox notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Seeley McDonald finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Charlo followed Friday’s win with a 59-11 victory over Two Eagle River School at home Saturday.

Hawk scored 10 points and had eight steals. Sidney Bauer scored 10 points for Charlo.

The Lady Eagles (06-, 0-10) were led by Dayani Piapot, who scored five points in the loss.

Arlee had two games scheduled for last week, but neither was played.

Deer Lodge canceled its Jan. 18 visit due to poor road conditions, and Missoula Loyola cancelled Friday’s visit due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Scarlets are set to visit Anaconda on Thursday, Jan. 27.
