Mariners sweep Dillon Cubs

POLSON – The Mission Valley Mariners opened conference action last week on the road in Missoula with a double header sweep over the hosting Mavs A squad on Wednesday, June 29.

In the opening game, the Mariners scored 12 runs on 16 hits in a 12-7 victory, while in the night cap the Mariners held the Mavs to a single run in a 7-1 win.

Dawson DuMont led the Mariners at the plate in the first game going 5-for-5 with two singles, two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Cymian Kauley and Espn Fisher split duties on the mound.

In a five-inning outing, Kauley picked up the Mariners win striking out three, walking three and allowing five runs on 10 hits. Fisher gave up two runs on five hits, struck out six and walked one.

Wyatt Wadsworth paced the Mariners' bats in the second game with a double and three RBIs followed by Alex Muzquiz with a double, a triple, and an RBI.

Dylan Davis held the Mavs to just one run on four hits, struck out four, and walked two, while in relief Cole Wadsworth allowed no runs on one hit, walked three, and struck out five.

On Sunday afternoon, the Mariners split a home game double header with the visiting Mavs A falling in the opener in a close 4-3 game, while taking a 11-2 victory in the second game.

The Mavs’ pitching staff held the Mariners to just five hits on the day. Xavier Fisher pulled the Mariners to within one run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two out home run.

The Mariner bats came alive in the second game scoring 11 runs on 14 hits. Brock Henriksen, Wadsworth, and Davis paced the Mariners with two RBIs apiece. Henriksen booked a home run in the fourth inning.

Going the distance and picking up the win on the hill, Xavier Fisher allowed two runs on nine hits, struck out two, and walked one.

Playing a double header on Monday afternoon, the Mariners defeated the visiting Dillon Cubs 5-3 and 10-0.

Kauley allowed three runs on one hit, struck out six, and walked none in seven innings of work for the win.

On the mound in the nightcap, Davis struck out six, walked one, and allowed two hits, while at the plate booked a double and two RBIs.

The Mariners were led at the plate by Henriksen who posted a triple and three RBIs.
