Mariners go 5-0 to win Harp tourney
KALISPELL – Xavier Fisher struck out five, walked two and allowed four hits in five innings of work as the Mission Valley Mariners A shut out the Bozeman Bucks A 8-0 to win the John R. Harp Memorial Legion Tournament hosted at Griffin Field in Kalispell late Sunday afternoon.
“We had minimal fielding mistakes, great outings by our starting pitchers, and we made great contact at bat,” said Mariner skipper Brad Fisher.
Playing at the Archie Roe field on Friday, the Mariners opened the nine team, three-day tourney with a 4-1 win over the Kootenai Valley Rangers.
Cole Wadsworth went the distance on the mound for the Mariners allowing one run on four hits, striking out two and walking three.
At the plate for Mission Valley, Espn Fisher picked up two RBIs in the first inning on a two-run single, while Dawson DuMont slugged a fifth inning solo home run.
In Friday’s late game, Wyatt Wadsworth threw a five-inning no-hitter to help lead the Mariners to an 8-0 shutout victory over the Mead Panthers. Wadsworth struck out four and walked four.
Espn Fisher and Dylan Davis each posted two RBIs apiece to lead the Mariner batters.
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead on Saturday morning, the Mariners rode out a fifth inning six-run rally by the Helena Reps to pick up their third win of the tourney.
In relief, Landon Shoemaker picked up the save in the nail biter by retiring the Helena batters in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
DuMont in the first inning and Muzquiz in the fifth inning each had triples that pushed runners across the plate.
The Mariners closed out Saturday’s action with a 6-0 blanking of the Sherwood Park Athletics.
On the hill for the Mariners, Alex Muzquiz pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowed no runs on five hits, struck out three, and walked one.
At the plate, Muzquiz helped his own cause with an RBI double in the fourth inning.
In Sunday’s championship game, the Mariners collected their third shutout win of the weekend with an 8-0 fifth inning mercy rule victory over the Bozeman Bucks.
DuMont paced the Mariners at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs.
The Mariners on the season are 41-12 overall and look to wrap up the 2022 regular season Saturday afternoon at home with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Bitterroot Red Sox at O’Malley Park.
