Mariner baseball heads into the postseason

POLSON – The Mission Valley Mariners baseball team closed out the regular Legion season with an impressive doubleheader sweeps over the both the Bitterroot Bucks “A” and Bitterroot Red Sox “A”.
On Wednesday, July 13, the Mariners traveled to Florence where they defeated the hosting Bucks 16-6 and 15-5.
The Mariners scored 16 runs on 19 hits in the first game with Dawson DuMont leading the way with a second inning home run.
Espn Fisher picked up the win on the mound, tossing four and two-thirds innings while allowing six earned runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one.
In game two of the twin bill, DuMont once again led the Mariners at the plate booking three RBIs followed by Ethan McCauley with a triple and two RBIs.
Cole Wadsworth and Dylan Davis split mound duties holding the Bucks bats to just five runs on seven hits.
On Sunday, the Mariners closed out its regular season at home with an 8-2 and 13-3 double header victory over the Bitterroot Red Sox.
Davis allowed two runs on three hits, threw five strike outs and walked five in the game one win.
Brock Henriksen and DuMont both posted three RBIs apiece on the day followed by Alex Muzquiz with two RBIs.
On the hill in the night cap, pitchers Wyatt Wadsworth and Cymian Kauley teamed up for the last regular season home win by allowing only 3 runs on eight hits, fanning three and walking two.
Muzquiz and DuMont each had home runs to lead the Mariner bats, while Xavier Fisher chipped in with a triple.
The Mariners finish the regular season with an overall record of 44-12 and post a 13-5 record in league play.
With the regular season over, the Mariners are now in postseason mode as the team travels to Kalispell on Thursday, July 21, to battle the Libby Loggers at 1 p.m. in the opening rounds of the Class A Western District Tourney.
