ANACONDA – The Polson 14U Lady Pirates girls softball team came home as state champions with a 6-5 win over Missoula Riot on Sunday.
The 14U Lady Pirates claimed the championship during the USA Softball Montana State Championships at the softball complex in Anaconda.
Polson went through the tournament undefeated.
Lady Pirates defeated Frenchtown Fury on Friday night 14-2 then collected wins over 406 Flyers-Roth (4-2) and Emeralds-Johnston (3-2) on Saturday to move through the winner’s bracket and into the championship round on Sunday.
The Lady Pirates needed to defeat Missoula Riot twice for the title. Polson would take care of business in game one winning 6-4 then slipped past the Riot in game two with a 6-5 victory for the state championship.
