Mission Mountain Rodeo Set for This Weekend in Polson

This Friday and Saturday, the annual Mission Mountain Rodeo will once again be held at the Polson Fairgrounds.

Local cowboys and cowgirls will compete against cohorts from around the state and even some from out of state.

Rodeos are a family affair with many competitors from the same family in the various adult and junior events. In team roping attendees may see spouses competing both with and against one another as well as some father-son or father-daughter teams. Expect over 100 competitors using their skills to try to best the others in their respective events.

Big Circle Rodeo from Circle Montana will provide the stock for the event. They have provided the stock for this rodeo for several years. The event is also sanctioned by the Northern Rodeo Association so many of the competitors will be working toward earning enough money to qualify for the NRA finals which will be held in Kalispell in October.

The NRA events will start at 7 p.m., but people may want to show up early to watch the youth events which will begin at 6 p.m., with mutton busting. The event is open to all young kids. Call Jodi at 406-261-5765 for details and to enter.

The Mini Bull Riding and Pony Bucker youth competitors are in a circuit of their own. The stock for these events will be provided by 406 Rodeo. In addition, youth will be competing in Jr. Barrel Racing and Jr. Breakaway Roping.

Additional entertainment will be provided by a pair of young teenage trick riders and the crowd will undoubtedly be chuckling over the antics and jokes provided by local clown/funny man, John Blixt.

On Friday night after the rodeo events, Northern Lights from Missoula will provide music.

Admission to the rodeo each day is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 5-12, free for kids under 5.
