The city of Polson is hosting a public discussion about local housing solutions from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 7 in the basement of the Polson Bay Golf Course clubhouse.

Specifically, the discussion is intended to focus on construction-related businesses and strategies that would assist with the development of additional housing.

“Give us your perspective on ways you think the development code gets in the way of housing projects,” City Manager Ed Meece said.

City staff are interested in exploring changes to the code and will use the conversation to generate a list of potential revisions.

“We’re looking for specific examples of how an actual code could be improved to create fewer obstacles to new housing, while also protecting existing property rights,” Meece said.

The gathering also will be used to identify potential improvements to the building inspection and zoning enforcement process, and to explore ways the city can assist in bolstering the local construction-related workforce.

Those who cannot attend the discussion in person may attend remotely via Zoom. An event agenda and remote viewing information are available on the city’s website at www.cityofpolson.com/meetings.
