Maidens’ season ends with loss to Stevi
With their season on the line, the Ronan girls clawed their way back into a loser-out game against Stevensville on Friday at the Western A divisional tournament in Hamilton, but the rally fell short and the Yellowjackets (8-16) held on for a 50-40 win.
Ronan finished the season with a record of 14-7.
Dani Coffman scored 10 points and Leina Ulutoa added nine points and eight rebounds in the finale. Olivia Heiner also scored nine, while freshman Lauryn Buhr contributed six points off the bench.
The Maidens (14-7) opened the tournament Thursday with a 60-19 thrashing from No. 2 seed Dillon (19-2). The Beavers held Ronan to single-digit scoring in each period, including four points in the second period and one point in the fourth.
Buhr paced the Maidens with five points, and Olivia Heiner and Coffman each scored four.
The tournament marked the end of high school careers for seniors Coffman, LaReina Cordova and Haylie Webster.
Dillon claimed the No. 1 seed to state, with Hamilton taking the two seed. Browning earned the No. 3 seed, Columbia Falls is the No. 4 and Butte Central claimed the fifth and final spot from the West.
