FRENCHTOWN — Cassidy Bagnell scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning on April 26 to give Frenchtown a 3-2 win over Polson in a rematch of last season’s class A state title game.

The Northwest A Pirates held a 2-1 lead over the Southwest A Broncs (10-0), thanks to Nikki Kendall’s 2-run double in the third inning.

Frenchtown’s Alexis Godin knotted the score at 2-2 with a solo homer in the furth, and from there Polson ace Katelyne Druyvestein and the Broncs’ Sadie Smith combined to three seven straight scoreless frames.

In the eighth, Bagnell hit a one-out single, stole second, moved to third on Smith’s groundout and scored on Druyvestein’s only wild pitch of the game.

Avery Starr’s two-run single capped a five-run sixth inning as Polson rallied past Florence on Friday at the Frenchtown Invitational. The Falcons had led 5-1 thanks partly to some shaky Pirates defense.

McKenna Hanson started the rally by getting hit with a pitch; Kendall and Pierre followed with singles, and Carli Maley’s RBI double cut the gap 5-4. That set up Starr’s heroics.

Druyvestein threw seven innings, with just one of her five runs allowed being earned. She scattered six hits and a walk and struck out eight.

Florence managed a one-out single, only to have that runner get picked off, in the seventh. Druyvestein then fanned the next batter to end the game.

The Polson battery of pitcher Druyvestein and catcher Hanson teamed up for a one-hitter and combined for six RBIs in the Pirates’ 13-0 win over Corvallis at the Frenchtown Invitational softball tournament Friday.

Druyvestein allowed one hit and no walks in five innings of work, and struck out 11.

Hanson caught the first three innings, and hit a two-run home run in the third. Two batters later Turquoise Pierre hit a solo shot to put Polson (8-2) up 10-0.

Druyvestein, Jaivin BadBear and Anna Vert each scored three times for the Pirates, who totaled 14 hits and four walks against three Corvallis pitchers.

The Lady Pirates wrapped up the weekend with a 5-2 loss to 2021 semifinalist Laurel on Saturday at Frenchtown, followed by a 17-0 rout of East Helena to cap the tournament. Polson finished the weekend with a 9-3 season record.
