Mission Valley outlasts Twins in 11 innings

WHITEFISH — Dawson Dumont drove in three runs without benefit of a hit, and Mission Valley’s pitching stymied the Glacier Twins in a 6-3 Class A Legion baseball win that took 11 innings Friday.

Cymain Kauley and Dylan Davis combined for a 7-hitter for the Mariners, who knotted the game at 2-2 in the seventh on Cole Wadworth’s sacrifice fly.

Both teams scored in the 10th inning: Dumont hit a fielder’s choice grounder that scored Aiden Gfoerer; Mikey Glass’ sacrifice fly brought in AC Chilton, who’d drawn a leadoff walk, for the Twins.

In the 11th Davis led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch to start a 3-run rally; Wadsworth followed with a single, and after a sacrifice bunt, Kauley struck out.

Then the next four Mariners reached: Gfoerer walked to load the bases; Xavier Fisher hit an RBI single to plate Davis for a 4-3 lead; Alex Muzquiz drew a bases-loaded walk and then Dawson Dumont was hit by a pitch — the seventh of the game and third by Glacier — to push across Wadsworth for a 6-3 lead.

Davis, who threw six innings of relief for the win, worked around a one-out walk in the bottom of the 11th to close it out. He allowed four hits and three walks, and fanned seven. Kauley allowed three hits and two walks in his five innings, with two strikeouts.

Josiah Ruther’s RBI single keyed the Twins (4-1) taking a 2-1 lead in the first, after Dumont had an RBI groundout in the top of the inning for the Mariners.

Mason Peters threw five strong innings for the Twins, with four hits and no walks allowed, and four strikeouts. Talon Murphy followed with four sharp innings as well.
