POLSON – Nearly a month ago, the match up of archrivals Polson Lady Pirates and Ronan Maidens in Ronan was an intense and dramatic five-set face-off in which the Lady Pirates prevailed.

Thursday’s rematch at Linderman Gym in Polson was a one-sided affair with the Lady Pirates taking the season series in three straight sets, 25-10, 25-9, 26-24, over the visiting Maidens.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with both squads close in score for the first part of the set. Breaking an 8-8 deadlock, the Lady Pirates went on a 17-2 scoring run to take a 1-0 set advantage.

Polson quickly took a 2-0 set lead over Ronan after winning the second set 25-9.

The third set was the highlight set of the match with the Lady Pirates leading most of the way, then letting a 12-6 edge slip away as the Maidens pulled even at 13-13. Ronan led as much as four points before the Lady Pirates dug deep to fend off the inspired Maidens for the 26-24 set and match win.

Sam Rensvold led the Lady Pirates with 11 kills, junior Avery Star added eight digs and a game high 28 assists, while Clara Todd had four aces and eight kills.

For Ronan, Leina Ulutoa and Lauryn Buhr had four kills apiece. Ulutoa also paced the Maidens with nine assists followed by senior libero Margaret Cordova with 13 digs.
