Fire danger still high on reservation
A wildfire, estimated at 270 acres on Monday, was burning east of St. Ignatius above Mission Dam. According to CSKT Fire Prevention Specialist C.T. Camel, no structures are in danger and the cause remains under investigation. The Mission Falls Trail into the Mission Mountain Wilderness is closed.
According to Camel, the warm weather has prolonged fire season and fire danger remains high.
“Grass and fine fuels can quickly ignite and turn into a wildfire,” he says, cautioning those burning or recreating outdoors to take special care when engaged in activities that could ignite a wildfire.
“Remember: one less spark, one less wildfire.”
Campfires are allowed but should never be left unattended until they are completely out and cold to the touch.
Burning without a permit is legal on the Flathead Reservation and in Lake County through Nov. 30.
