Lady Vikings set for deep post season run

CHARLO – Headed into the final week of District 14C girls’ volleyball action with a 10-1 overall season record, the Charlo Lady Vikings look poised to make another deep run into the post season.

On Thursday in St. Regis, the Lady Vikings booked their 10th win of the season in a 25-14, 28-26, 23-25, 25-16 four set victory over host St. Regis Lady Tigers.

In Saturday’s conference match up with the visiting Noxon Lady Red Devils, the Lady Vikings fell in an epic five set battle 23-25, 25-23, 25-12, 16-25, 9-15.

Charlo was led by Leah Cahoon who booked on the night three aces, 10 kills, five blocks and eight digs.

Also for the Lady Vikings, Payton Smith had six aces and a game high 22 assists, while Aida Cote added nine kills and four blocks.

Thompson Falls Lady Blue Hawks 3, Mission Lady Bulldogs 0

Mission Lady Bulldogs 3, Plains Trotters 0

The Mission Lady Bulldogs split a two game homestand last week, falling 25-14, 25-17, 25-13 to the Thompson Falls Lady Blue Hawks on Thursday night, while on Saturday afternoon defeating the Plains Trotters in straight sets 25-22, 25-19, 25-18.

In Saturday’s match, Izzy Evans paced the Lady Bulldogs with four aces, six kills, and five digs. Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Gabby Smith booked 16 assists and seven digs, followed by Cassidy Orr with four aces and six digs. Alecia Steele chipped in with five kills.

Arlee Scarlet 3, Troy Lady Trojans 0

The Arlee Scarlets picked up a 3-0 girls’ volleyball road win on Saturday by sweeping host Troy Lady Trojans in straight sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-11.

2022 Blocktober Volleyball Classic – Butte, MT

On Friday and Saturday in the mining city, the Polson Lady Pirates and Ronan Maidens joined 23 volleyball squads from all around the state in competition during the annual Butte Central hosted Blocktober Volleyball Classic.

Playing matches in three local gyms in Butte, the Blocktober tourney allows teams the opportunities to improve skills and play against opponents they would not normally see until the end of season tournaments.

The Lady Pirates qualified for Saturday’s consolation bracket by winning pool play matches against Florence, Corvallis, Frenchtown, and Lockwood, while dropping matches to Columbia Falls, Hardin, and Havre.

On Saturday, Polson opened double elimination bracket action with a 19-25, 25-21, 18-16 win over Dillon. The Lady Pirates then fell 27-25, 25-13 to Lewistown setting up a 25-21, 25-21 loser out match win over Lockwood. Polson claimed a fourth-place finish with a 25-19, 25-22 loss to Dillon.

For Ronan on Friday, the Maidens finished pool action with a record of 1-6 falling to Glendive, Hamilton, Billings Central, Dillon, Jefferson, and Browning. The Maidens’ lone win came against Miles City.

Playing at East Middle School on Saturday, the Maidens battled their way into the copper bracket chipper by defeating Park 25-13, 19-25, 15-11 and East Helena 25-13, 25-23.

Frenchtown held off Ronan 25-20, 25-13 for the bracket championship.
