Rush, Bulldogs state XC champs

MISSOULA – Speedy Andrew Rush picked up his eighth individual title of the season this past Saturday at the Class B boys state cross country championship leading the Mission Bulldogs to their first ever in school history individual and team state cross country championship titles.

Rush covered the 3.1-mile course hosted at the University of Montana Golf Course in 16:15.65, which was nearly 19 seconds faster than runner-up and Bulldog teammate Robbie Nuila (16:34.50).

Bulldog runner Zoran LaFrombois finished in seventh with a time of 16:59.08 to give Mission three all-state placers. Thomas Nuila (17:15.91) placed 17th and Harlon Leishman (18:24.27) finished 36th giving Mission a total team score of 63 points. Runner-up Three Forks finished 49-points behind the Bulldogs with a team total of 112 points, while Jefferson with 129 points placed third.

“It’s unbelievable. They did it. These guys are incredible,” said Mission cross country head coach Chris Eichert of her school history making team.

Other meets that Rush won this season included the Grant-Kohrs Ranch Run, Ronan Canal Bank Run, Flathead Invite, Thompson Falls Invitational, Hamilton Invitational at Daly Mansion, Mission Shadow Duels, and the Western B/C Divisional.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Ellanah Flatlip (31, 22:16.56 ) and Cedar Hunt (49, 22:58.87)

Also in Class B, Arlee was paced by Warrior Drew Knoll (154, 22:05.17) and Scarlet Bailey Smith (126, 27:45.19).

In Class A, Polson Lady Pirate Ashtyn Wagner (13, 20:16.69) and Ronan Maiden Olivia Heiner (15, 20:29.86) received all-state accolades by finishing within the top 15.

Colter Wilson (33, 17:55.12) crossed the line as the first Pirate finisher, while Jacob Piapot (74, 18:54.03) finished tops for the Ronan Chiefs.

In the boys’ race in Class C, the Charlo Vikings were led by Hayden Smith (27, 19:14.32) and Malacye Piapot (33, 19:34.06) paced the Two Eagle River Eagles, while in the girls’ race Dayani Piapot (71, 27:32.6) led the Lady Eagles and Danielle Davis (104, 31:56.9) paced the Lady Vikings.
