Football Roundup: Pirates swat Yellowjackets

POLSON – The Polson Pirates scored 35 unanswered first quarter points and cruised to a 49-0 rout over the visiting Stevensville Yellowjackets in non-conference football action on Friday night.

The Class A third-ranked Pirates (2-0) got five first quarter touchdowns from quarterback Jarrett Wilson, three running and two passing.

On the night, Jarrett Wilson accounted for seven touchdowns, completing 17-of-25 passes for 300 yards and four scores and running six times for 115 yards and three more touchdowns.

Dawson Dumont caught a 50-yard scoring pass, while Tyler Wenderoth added an 18-yard touchdown reception, all in the first quarter. Trent Wilson led all receivers with four catches for 97 yards.

The Pirates also got points from Colter Wilson on a 30-yard touchdown pass and Wenderoth added another in the second quarter.

Jarrett Wilson accounted for all three rushing scores, running in 55-yard, 48-yard and 4-yard touchdowns.

Also for the Pirates, kicker Tia Mercer added seven extra points upping her grand total to 14 of 14 on the season.

The Yellowjacket offense had a rough night against the Pirate’s stingy defense that allowed only six yards rushing and 79-yards passing.

Mission 78, Troy 42

Friday night’s final score of the Mission Bulldogs in conference road game against the Troy Trojans resembled a lobsided basketball game more than your average high school football game.

A total of 120 points were scored in the Bulldogs 78-42 win over the Trojans.

The Bulldogs ran for a total 221 yards, as Bryce Umphrey rushed 117 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Canyon Sargent had two TD runs on six carries and 67 yards.

Quarterback Kellen McClure was 9-of-16 passing 153 yards and 3 TDs, while backup quarterback Titan Mansell threw a touchdown pass completing 2-of-5 passing for 68 yards.

Bulldogs Kenny Ness, Bryce Umphrey, Izeyk Umphrey and Mansell were all on the receiving end of touchdown passes.

Sargent led the defense with nine tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Libby 21, Ronan 12

The Ronan Chiefs fell 21-12 in their season home opener on Friday night to the visiting Libby Loggers.

After Libby sprinted out to a 21-0 halftime lead, the Chiefs scored 12 unanswered second half points to pull within nine points of the Loggers before the clock ran out.

Quarterback Caleb Cheff was 17-of-29 for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Cheff also rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries. Ted Coffman caught eight passes for 172 yards and two TDs.
