Lake County athletes post some wins at Dave Tripp Memorial
Smith, Knoll and Crawford lead Lake County boys at Dave Tripp
Arlee had a pair of event winners, Charlo notched a victory in running, and both C schools finished within the top ten at the Dave Tripp Memorial Track Meet on Friday, March 31, in Polson.
"I’m happy we got this meet in the books," Charlo Head Coach Eli Redeker said. "Any time the weather holds off, and we get an opportunity to compete, we’ve got to consider ourselves lucky."
Charlo’s Hayden Smith won the 3,200-meter run (11:51.53) and was second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:14.46.
Arlee’s Jake Knoll won the shot put (39-6), while Charlo’s Titan Inman was fifth (33-10.5).
Charley Crawford won the javelin for Arlee with a heave of 153-10 for a personal record.
Charlo’s Keaton Piedalue was second in the 200-meter dash (24.36), third in the 400-meter run (58.87), and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.96).
In the 800-meter run, Charlo’s Tasker Brown was fifth (2:45.77) while Arlee’s Dean Moran was ninth (2:55.74), and Moran’s teammate Chase Corville was 10th (2:55.79).
"Our marks reflect where we are as a team and where we are with the season: We’re a young squad and it’s early," Redeker said of Charlo's marks in the first meet of the year.
"I was very proud of our first-year track athletes. We had a lot of upperclassmen gone due to school-related conferences. The youngsters really stepped up."
Two Eagle River’s Malacye Piapot was fifth in the 400-meter run (1:00.29), and sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.55).
Arlee finished fourth in the 4x100 relay (50.40) as Tucker Brown, Charley Crawford, Hephation Davidson, and Kendal O’Neill combined forces for the Warriors. Charlo’s team of Piedalue, Brown, Karson Cox, and Kenyan Dumont took eighth (55.69).
Charlo was third in the 4x400 relay as Piedalue, Brown, Dumont, and Hayden Smith notched a time of 4:09.43). Arlee was fifth as Crawford, Davidson, Brown, and O’Neill notched a time of 4:10.22.
Arlee’s O’Neill was third in the high jump with a mark of 5-6; and third in the long jump with a leap of 18-10. Fellow Warrior Brody Smith was fourth with an imprint of 7-9. Alree’s Dean Moran was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 31-2, and teammate Moses Curtiss was 10th (29-9)
Arlee’s Adalyn Jacobson takes first in 400 meter
While Lake County athletes won just one event at the Dave Tripp, it was still an impressive showing for athletes from both Charlo and Arlee.
Arlee’s Adalyn Jacobson won the 400-meter run (1:10.38) and was sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.80). She was also fourth in the javelin (84-08).
Charlo’s Elsie Detert was fifth in the 800-meter run (3:18.40). Arlee’s Saisha North Piegan was tenth in the same event (3:47.06).
Detert was also fifth in the 1,600-meter run (7:10.55), while fellow Lady Viking was seventh (7:37.42).
Charlo’s Aida Cote was second in the discus with a throw of 98-2. Arlee’s Shonlea Matt was eighth in the event with a throw of 77. Lady Viking Leah Cahoon was tenth with a throw of 71-11.
In the shot put, Matt was ninth with a throw of 26-7, and in the javelin, Matt was seventh (74-07). Cahoon was ninth in the javelin (72-05).
Charlo’s Shaedon Kain was sixth in the triple jump (24-6).
"This is the time of the year where we really get an opportunity to grow and build," Coach Redeker said. "We’ve got a lot of hard work to do – but this is a great group of kids. They’ve had a great, positive attitude. I’m excited to see what we can do."
