Elks donate to local fire departments

Montana State Elks Association delivered two checks March 14 to local fire departments as part of a major project program, "Aid to Rural Fire Departments."

Fire Chief Clint Cottle of the Polson City Fire Department received $1,482 and Fire Chief Chris Adler of the Ronan Fire Department was presented a check for $1,590. Both donations will aid in the purchase of much-needed emergency equipment.

Cottle said his department will use the donation for personal protective equipment.

“Most all the personal protective equipment we use, especially for structure fires, is expensive and most have expiration dates, so constantly replacing outdated gear is necessary to help ensure the safety of our firefighters,” said Cottle. “We would like to thank the Elks for their generous support and recognize them as an outstanding community partner.”

According to Adler, the Ronan department plans to use the money to buy safety turnout gear, including fire helmets and Nomex hoods.

“Just like everything else in our present time, the price of fire equipment is also on the rise, so help like this is greatly appreciated,” he said, adding that the donation came “as a nice surprise.”

Checks were presented by Justin Kalmbach, President/Exalted Ruler of the Mission Valley Elks Lodge 1695.
