Polson sweeps matches at Cut Bank Invite

Polson High School boys and girls tennis teams swept their competition at the Cut Bank Invitational over the weekend. The Pirates and Lady Pirates didn't back down against other big Class A schools and showed they were one of the toughest squads around. Polson ended up having a clean sweep, with neither the boys' nor girls' teams losing a match.

No. 1 singles player Clara Todd on the girls' side and the No. 1 boys' doubles team, Owen McElwee and Trent Wilson, led the way, going undefeated for the weekend.

On Friday, the Polson boys team faced off against Hardin, securing a 5-2 victory. Tate Barentsen, Chris Lake, and Ruger Ellis all picked up singles victories, while Wilson and Owen won at No. 1 doubles and Noah Trosper and Otto Lund picked up a No. 3 doubles victory.

The Polson girls also won 5-2 against Hardin, with Todd, Katie Smith, Piper Hoxie, and Hope Morrison sweeping singles play for the Lady Pirates. In doubles action, Summer Newman and Karli Owens won the No. 1 doubles matchup 8-6.

Polson also faced off against Billings Central on Friday, with the boys' team securing a 5-2 victory. Torrin Ellis and Ruger Ellis secured singles wins, while Wilson and McElwee secured victories in No. 1 doubles. Brock Henriksen and Colter Wilson at No. 2 doubles and Otto Lund/Noah Trosper at No. 3 doubles also secured the win.

The girls won 5-2 against Billings Central, with Todd, Lauren Collinge, and Josie Henriksen winning at singles and Piper Hoxie/Katie Smith and Neman/Owens winning in doubles.

Polson boys dominated against East Helena, winning all seven matches. Torrin Ellis, Owen McElwee, Ruger Ellis, Noah Trosper, Trent and Colter Wilson, and Brock Henriksen/Tate Barentsen all won in their respective matches.

Against East Helena, the girls' team won 4-3, with the doubles No. 1 team of Clara Todd/Katie Smith, along with Owens/Newman winning their doubles matches and Julia Barnard and Josie Henriksen winning their singles matches.

Against Havre, Polson again won all seven boys' matches. Torrin Ellis, Tate Barentsen, Chris Lake, Ruger Ellis, Owen McElwee/Trent Wilson, and Colter Wilson/Brock Henriksen all won in their respective matches.

The Polson girls' team secured a 5-2 victory against Havre, with Clara Todd winning her singles match against Rayna Johnson 8-4. Lauren Collinge, Josie Henriksen, Piper Hoxie/Katie Smith, and Karli Owens/Summer Newman also secured victories in their matches.

Polson's impressive record of eight victories over tough competition showed just how strong they can be this season as they continue to wrap up W's in the win column.

Decker and Paca pick up wins for Ronan

Weather is something sports teams just learn to deal with in Montana, and that could be said for Ronan's hosting of Columbia Falls and Whitefish on Friday, April 14.

With matches cut short due to falling snow, the results were limited but the Maidens and Chiefs did have some standout performances.

Ronan No. 1 Beau Decker picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Columbia Falls No. 1 Jax Ramage 6-0, 6-2. He would also take Whitefish No. 1 Mason Kelch to the limit before falling 2-6, 7-6(7-3) 6-3.

Ronan Girls No. 1 Angie Paca also defeated Whitefish's Alivia Lusko, 6-2, 6-4.

Polson sweeps Columbia Falls

On the road, the Polson boys and girls tennis teams picked up hard-fought Northwestern A Conference team victories on Thursday, April 13, in Columbia Falls.

The girls picked up a 4-3 victory over the Wildkats, anchored by solid doubles play. The No. 1 doubles Lady Pirates squad of Katie Smith and Lucy Violett defeated Columbia Falls' Kati Crockett and Eloise McKeon 6-0, 6-1.

No. 2 doubles squad of Lauren Collinge and Summer Newman and No. 3 doubles team of Maddie Lake and Mary Agliano also picked up victories for Polson.

In singles play, college-bound Clara Todd notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Cloey Ramage in No. 1 singles action. Columbia Falls would win three singles victories in the meet.

On the boys' side, the Pirates got solid play from their singles and doubles players. Polson No. 2 singles player Colter Wilson defeated Logan Heupel 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. In No. 4 singles action Branson Moss won 6-1, 7-5.

In doubles action, Owen McElwee and Trent Wilson defeated Columbia Falls' Dale Blickan/Will Pickard, 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1 team action. The No. 2 Pirate squad of Otto Lund and Noah Trosper won 6-2, 6-2.
