Baseball: Polson loses to Hamilton, but posts three wins

Polson’s eight-game streak snapped by Hamilton

Hamilton notched two runs in the top of the sixth en route to a 3-1 victory over Polson on Saturday, April 22, snapping the Pirates’ eight-game winning streak. Polson out-hit the Broncs 7-6 but left seven men on base in the loss.

Jarrett Wilson had three hits, while Espn Fisher, Landon Shoemake, Aiden Gfroerer, and Landon Pablo also had hits.

Shoemake pitched four innings on the mound, giving up just two hits and striking out three.

The game was scoreless through four; then both teams scored a run in the fifth.

The game was actually scheduled at the last minute, and it was the Pirates’ third game of the day since they squeezed in a JV game against Eureka as well. The roster also missed players due to a Polson High School music event.

The loss dropped Polson to 9-2 overall but they remain 4-0 in conference action.

Polson notches victory over Eureka

Polson scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-11 victory over Eureka on Saturday, April 22. Espn Fisher finished the game with four RBI and a triple in the win.

Polson led 3-2 after three innings, but Eureka battled back for a 7-4 lead through five. The Pirates rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lions roared right back with four runs in the seventh.

Polson finished the game with seven hits and committed six errors in the matchup.

Dawson DuMont had two hits and drove in three runs, while Cymian Kauley had two hits and a double. Cody Haggard drove in three runs, had a triple, and had three hits.

Polson pitching struck out seven.

Mission 13, Troy 12

Mission rallies back against Troy

There is no quitting in baseball, and Mission showed that in a 13-12 victory over Troy on Friday, April 21. Trailing 10-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs scored four in the fourth, six in the fifth, and two in the sixth for the victory, finishing with 12 hits.

Milo Crooks and Sheldon McLeod each had three hits, while Chance Bockman had two. Crooks notched three doubles in the matchup, while Mcleod had one. Along with the hitting, Mission also drew nine walks.

Rhain Gonzalez, Jake Helser, Caleb Dunevin and Sackett Andres also hit the ball, while Gonzalez, Helser, Dunevin, Jason Leishman, Crooks, and McLeon each drove in runs. Dunevin also had a triple.

At St. Ignatius

Polson wins a tight one against C-Falls

Polson has been putting up big numbers against opponents this season but showed they could win the close one in a 3-2 victory over Columbia Falls on Friday, April 21, at home. Espn Fisher was masterful for the Pirates on the mound, going seven innings, allowing just four hits, and striking out 11.

Columbia Falls trailed 3-0 but had a two-run rally in the top of the sixth, making the game extremely tense the rest of the way.

Polson’s Jarret Wilson was 2-for-4 in the matchup with a double, while Dawson DuMont was 2 for 3 and drove in a run. Fisher also helped his cause by driving in a run.

Aiden Gfoerer had two hits, while Cody Haggard had a triple.

Polson’s DuMont strikes out 14

There is a reason Dawson DuMont is heading over to Washington to play college ball at Shoreline. That was on full display on Monday, April 17, when he threw a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts against Lake County rival Mission in an 11-0 Polson victory.

Polson led 6-0 after three innings and continued to score runs every inning to finish the game. The Pirates had seven hits as a team, including two from Espn Fisher, who also notched a double and a triple.

DuMont helped his cause by slamming a triple and driving in two runs. Landon Shoemake drove in three runs and had a double in the matchup.

Mission’s Rhain Gonzalez had two hits and pitched two innings of relief for the Bulldogs. Kellen McClure started the game and struck out five Polson batters.
