Tennis: Polson stays on top with two wins

Polson dominates Libby Invitational

Polson continues to perform well in tournament action, which bodes well for divisionals and state in the near future. The Polson boys and girls tennis teams dominated the Libby Invitational on March 21-22.

Polson won four championships in four divisions of the invite and played in the championship of the other two.

Lady Pirate Clara Todd, who is headed to Whitworth to play college tennis, won the Girls No. 1 and No. 2 championship. The doubles squad of Lucy Violett and Katie Smith won the No. 1 and No. 2 girls' doubles championships, while Polson also placed third and fourth in the same bracket.

Lauren Collinge won the No. 3 and No. 4 singles division girls' championship with a three-set win.

On the boys' side, Trent Wilson and Otto Lund won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles championship by beating teammates Brock Henriksen and Colter Wilson.

In No. 1 and No. 2 singles championship action, Torrin Ellis advanced to the championship match, while teammate Chris Lake also advanced to the championship.

Polson sweeps matches against Ronan

Polson looked strong in its Northwestern A Conference matchup against Lake County rival Ronan on Thursday, April 20, with both the boys and girls teams coming away with victories.

The Polson boys defeated Ronan 6-0. The Pirates' Torrin Ellis downed Beau Decker in No. 1 singles action, 6-2, 6-2, while Chris Lake and Casey Trosper also won their singles matchups.

In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles squad of Otto Lund and Brock Henricksen for Polson defeated Wyatt Simpson and Dante Baltz 6-0, 6-2. Polson doubles teams of Noah Flaten and Lachlan Sloan, along with Max Violett and Max Wyman also defeated their Ronan opponents.

On the girls' side, Polson's No. 1 singles player Katie Smith defeated Ronan's Angie Paca 6-1, 6-1, while Summer Newman won her No. 2 singles matchup for the Lady Pirates. Polson won the No. 3 singles by forfeit, and Addison Bahr won the No. 4 singles match for the Lady Pirates.

In doubles action, Josie Henriksen and Vivian Grainey won the No. 1 doubles matchup against Sarah McConnel and Amy Snyder of Ronan 6-1, 6-0.

Mission falls to Valley Christian and Superior

Mission faced Valley Christian and Superior on April 11 and 13, respectively, in close matchups on the scorecard.

The Mission boys fell to Valley Christian 3-0, with No. 1 Bulldog singles player Nic Frost falling to K Reimer 6-4, 6-0. No. 1 doubles team of Erich Morigeau and Tre Heath-Laframbois played against Z. Hoaglin and G. Shaffer from Valley Christian, but lost 6-0, 6-3.

The girls won a match but fell as a team 3-1. No. 1 doubles squad of Emily Morigeau and Evelyn Pavlock-Ferencz from Mission played a tough match against R. Rapelje and P. Lorenz from Valley Christian and eventually won 6-4, 7-5.

Two days later, Mission High School's girls tennis team faced Superior in another nail-biting match that saw them fall 3-1.

No. 1 singles player Lanie Keast from Mission lost 6-1, 6-3 against L. Crabb from Superior. Emily Morigeau and Evelyn Pavlock-Ferencz as the No. 1 Mission doubles team, played great and downed T. Auberry and O. Grueter from Superior, 6-2, 6-2.
