Polson High School's tennis star, Clara Todd, has signed on to play college tennis at Whitworth University in Spokane. The senior looked at several colleges but ultimately chose Whitworth for its beautiful campus, welcoming team, and strong science programs.

"The college recruitment process was fairly simple for me," Todd said. "I was interested in a few other schools for tennis; however, Whitworth seemed to be the best fit."

During a campus visit earlier this winter, Todd was able to play for Whitworth Coach Rachel Aldridge and meet the team.

"They were super welcoming and really made me feel like I was already on the team," she said.

Todd's tennis career at Polson has been remarkable. As a sophomore, she was a member of the 2021 State A Championship team, an experience she describes as "incredible to be a part of."

Playing under Coach Bob Hislop, Todd has learned to be an accomplished athlete and competitor and placed third at state last year.

It hasn't been an easy journey for Todd, however. She has undergone two knee reconstruction surgeries, making her dream of playing at the college level appear impossible. But Todd persevered, and today she is grateful for the opportunity to play a sport she truly loves.

"It's because of overcoming that challenge that I am able to," she said. "The school itself is beautiful and has great science programs, which is what I am interested in."

Todd plans to major in biology or neuroscience.

Although the campus is somewhat secluded from the main area of Spokane, Todd is looking forward to attending a college relatively close to home.

"I love that it is close to home and still in the beautiful Northwest," she said.

As she prepares to join the Whitworth Pirates in the Fall, Todd is excited about the new challenges and opportunities ahead. Her determination and love for the sport will make her a valuable asset to the team, and she will still be a Pirate!
