Mission Valley athletes shine at USAF Nationals

Several Mission Valley athletes shone brightly at the USAF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, held July 24-30 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene. All are members of the Mission Mountain Mercury Club.

Morgan Delaney was the top local finisher, placing ninth in the 3,000-meter run with a personal record of 11:03.05. She narrowly missed being an All-American by one spot in the 15-16 girls’ division. She also placed 24th in the 1,500-meter prelims with a personal best of 5:08.46 and 59th in the triple jump with a mark of 26-7.25.

In the 13-14 girls division, Kimora Scott was 31st in the 3,000-meter run with a personal best of 11:17.48, while Quinn Delaney was 35th with a personal best of 11:23.34. Delaney was also 24th in the 1,500-meter prelims with a career-best time of 5:31.22, while Scott was 49th with a personal best 5:20.44.

Briggs Delaney finished 37th in the 8-10 boys’ division with a heave of 20-02.5 – a personal best. He was also 66th in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:20.27.
