Polson Seniors: Hugs always given

A woman, to whom I delivered a meal, appeared to be caring for a 4- or 5-year-old child. As I did so, the child, unseen by me, bolted to the sidewalk, yelling “Huggy, Huggy, Huggy!” and grabbed both my legs. I told the child that I always have hugs to give away, and I complied with her request. She ran quickly back into the house, without comment. Grandma smiled as I turned away and got in my car.

We have a lot to learn from children and they have a lot to learn from us. Hug someone who offers it.

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver Meals on Wheels Mondays-Fridays. Pick your day or days to deliver. Shifts start about 10:30 a.m. and finish in about an hour.

The annual meeting of the Polson Senior Center, Inc. will be held the last Friday in August at 10:30 a.m. at the center. We need your input at this meeting. The annual report will be given and elections of officers and the board of directors will be held. The meeting should be over by lunch time.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; pinochle, noon-3 p.m. Thursdays (free cookies, coffee and fun); bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays ($100 payout on blackouts), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday (Aug. 4) and third Tuesday (Aug. 15) of each month.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays and cost $5. The menu is posted each week at the center; call before 10 a.m. for deliveries.

Upcoming main dishes include cheeseburgers, Aug. 3; pork pot pie, Aug. 4; beef barley soup. Aug. 7; turkey roll-ups, Aug. 8; taco salad, Aug. 9; BBQ ribs, Aug. 10; and baked fish, Aug. 11.
