Players season wraps with “Butterflies Are Free”
The final show of the Port Polson Players’ 48th summer season is the romantic comedy/drama, “Butterflies Are Free,” which opens Aug. 10 at the Theatre on the Lake in Polson.
Ellie Dupuis plays a free-spirited hippie who moves into an apartment next door to a blind, budding musician, played by Kyle Alexander. Rounding out the four-person cast are Shellie Winebrenner as the musician’s overprotective mother, and Eric Donovan, portraying an Off-Broadway theatre producer.
According to producer Karen Lewing, “Butterflies Are Free” “is a delightful retro step back to the early 70s.” She adds that due to its sophisticated storyline, the play is not recommended for elementary school-aged children.
As a side note, the play’s author, Leonard Gershe, based his script on the life of blind attorney, author and activist Harold Krents. Goldie Hawn and Edward Albert starred in the Oscar-winning 1972 film while the Broadway production debuted in 1969.
Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 10-27. The play is produced by Port Polson Players in association with Mission Valley Friends of the Arts.
