SK Housing Authority restricts water use

The Salish Kootenai Housing Authority implemented watering restrictions last week for all customers on community water systems from Evaro to Elmo, including Arlee Homesites, Dixon Agency and the town of Dixon, and the southside of St. Ignatius.

No outside water use is permitted, including irrigation, sprinkling or open hoses.

“With the unprecedented hot and dry summer we have been experiencing, we have seen fluctuations in our tank levels and in some of the well depths,” according to a press release from SKHA. “To prevent loss of water to any of our customers within our water systems, these restrictions need to be placed.”

The City of Polson also restricted outdoor water use last week to every other day, with odd-numbered addresses watering on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Households are only allowed to water a maximum of three hours every other day, either from 6-9 a.m. or 7-10 p.m.
