Crop conditions bad in the state

Harvesting operations were speeded up and much wheat was cut by reason of early ripening forced by extreme heat and dryness during the past weeks.

Highest temperatures in a period of many years were recorded in many parts of the state and other than a few light showers of practically no value the week was devoid of precipitation. The ripening of grain and feed crops was materially hastened and yields were reduced.

No snagging allowed in Flathead this year

Flathead Lake, Flathead River, and all streams and forks in the Flathead drainage north of Flathead Lake are closed for salmon snagging this fall. Also closed to snagging is the Swan River below Bigfork Dam, Brenneman’s Slough and Whitefish Lake.

The object of this closure is to take harvest pressure off the kokanee to help reestablish the salmon spawning tradition in the mainstream of the Flathead River.
