CSKT Tribal Health hosts golf tournament
Mission Mountain Golf Club in Ronan will be home to a golf tournament Sept. 8, hosted by CSKT Tribal Health’s Staying Strong, Growing Older Initiative.
According to CSKT physical therapist Samantha Morigeau, Tribal Health receently received a multi-year grant from the National Council on Aging's Administration for Community Living to implement fall prevention programs.
“We are hosting this tournament to provide community members with information about our community-based programs to reduce fall risk and increase physical activity,” she said.
The event is for any level of golfer with the only requirement being that each team must feature someone 50 years or older.
Registration is free for any Tribal Health member and the deadline to register teams is 4 p.m. Sept. 6.
This event will feature a three-player scramble, nine holes and a shotgun start. There will be a morning and noon session with registration starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
The three-player scramble is a popular golf game where three golfers tee off like normal. Once each player hits their ball, they pick the best shot of the three and set their golf balls within a foot of each other. Players then hit again until they get to the green, where each hits until one player gets the ball into the hole.
Shotgun start is a similar team game except it is typically much faster than most other games. It requires multiple groups of golfers all starting at the same time at different holes, making for a faster game in all.
There will also be a putting challenge from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m. This event will feature door prizes and competition prizes. Lunch will be provided and there will also be information given out about Tribal Health’s upcoming events and fall prevention programs.
“Staying healthy as you age can be challenging,” said Morigeau. The event offers a fun and interactive way to learn about some of Tribal Health's upcoming physical activity programs as well as participate in a few quick and easy fall-risk screenings.
“This event, as well as the programs we're introducing, are implemented with aging adults in mind so they are welcoming to people of all activity levels,” she added.
