| August 17, 2023 12:00 AM

Robert Gary “Bobby” Petticrew passed away at his home on July 28, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bobby, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe, was born on April 23, 1948, to his mother, Geraldine Bisson, and father Edgar Petticrew in St. Ignatius, Mont. He was the fifth of eight children.

Bobby grew up in the Mission Valley where he learned how to be an experienced woodsman. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and deployed to Vietnam. During his tour he was injured in combat, losing his leg and nearly his life. He later received a Purple Heart for his sacrifice. He was sent to Seattle for an extended period for rehabilitation for his injuries, and then returned home after his recovery. Despite his injury, he never let that stop him from doing the things he loved and living a fulfilled life.

Bobby had countless stories and many adventures. He would spend his time working on vehicles, falling trees, selling firewood, hunting, fishing, woodworking, tinkering and gardening. He especially enjoyed sharing his wisdom and life lessons with his family and others. He was also a very kind and generous man who donated to causes such as St. Jude's, and the local food banks.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Patricia Tryon, Phyllis Petticrew, Eugene Petticrew, Beverly Petticrew, Charlotte Petticrew and Kenneth Petticrew.

Bobby is survived by his sister, Sharon Rosenbaum; his daughter, Jennifer Barnes (Marvin); his son, Shannon Adams; his grandchildren, Shannon (Starla) Barnes, Uriah (Lexi) Barnes and Lindsay (Zack) Aman; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

His celebration of life with graveside services will be held on May 17, 2024, at Lakeview Cemetery at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at his home. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.shriderthompson.com.
