School opens Tuesday, Sept. 5

Plans are complete for the opening of school on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Grade school students will register in their respective rooms on that day.

High school students are requested to register during the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 1, in the high school building.

County to get $91,000 adjusted payment

Wheat growers of Montana will receive approximately $8,500,000 during each of the three ensuing years under the operation of the Agricultural Adjustment Act, based upon a payment of 30 cents per bushel, and the state’s allotment of seeded acreage will be approximately 906,200 acres from that of the five-year (1928-1932) average if the plan now apparently assured is carried into effect.

Hanson Motors loses car, door

Hanson Motors, Inc. was burglarized early Sunday morning when a car was driven through the back door without the benefit of opening the door first.

The car, belonging to Joanna Schall of Arlee, was found later in the morning abandoned on the H. O. Bell road where it had been driven into the ditch. The car was damaged in both the door episode and in going into the ditch.

Agent urges anti-litter campaign

Members of 4-H clubs and other groups that make a community service of cleaning up litter from local roads are well aware of how much trash the traveling public scatters in a year's time, according to County Extension Agent Ed Bratton.

This problem of the “litterbugs” is national in scope and despite the efforts and local accomplishments of civic and service organizations, private citizens, government agencies and others, the volume of litter continues to increase.

Charlo students get math award

Two Charlo High School students have been honored for their mathematics progress by an organization called the United States Achievement Academy.

Blaine and Raelyn Cox, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cox, were nominated for the national award by their math teacher, Mrs. Patti Fait. Their biographies will appear in the sponsoring organization’s annual yearbook.

Bighorn herd is increasing

Fish, Wildlife and Parks ranger Barb Thomas reports that there are 11 bighorn lambs on Wild Horse Island this summer.

It is the highest production of bighorns on the island since the State became involved with the area in 1978. Last July a total of 56 sheep were counted, with 28 rams, 20 ewes and 8 lambs.
