Polson Golf sweeps Corvallis Invite

Polson’s Ashley Maki built a three-stroke lead on the first day and then fended off the defending Class A State Champion to win top honors at the Corvallis Invitational in Missoula on Monday and Tuesday of last week.

The Polson boys and girls golf team won team championships at the invite, which was played at the Missoula Country Club and Double Arrow Golf Course.

Maki fired off a 77 in her first round and then notched a 79 on the second day for a winning score. Frenchtown’s Kate Lewis placed second with rounds of 80 and 77. Maki’s Polson teammate Clare Konen placed fifth with a score of 95 and 89.

Two more players for the Lady Pirates - Kylee Seifert (93-99—192) and Kila Cannon (96-98—194) - placed seventh and eighth to make it four Polson golfers in the top ten.

The Polson girls finished with a score of 730 for first, and Hamilton came in second with a score of 755.

On the boys' side, Polson won the team, scoring by 44 strokes, and had four players in the top ten of the tournament.

Carson Hupka placed third for the Pirates, shooting 76-77 for a score of 153. Christian Lund was behind him in fourth place (78-76-154), and Hunter Emerson was sixth (78-83-161). Espn Fisher was tenth (81-87-168) to round out the top scoring for the Pirates.

Libby’s Reese Malyevac won individual honors for the boys, shooting 76 and 71 for a total of 147.
