National Senior Citizens Day was Aug. 21. President Reagan signed the proclamation in 1988. Every day we celebrate the services that senior citizens provide in the community. Thank you for your dedication.

Time to pay your dues! The price of dues has not risen in over 20 years; $15 in 2003 is now equivalent to $24. Members receive a free banana split (a $6-$8 value) at the center at our annual Ice-Cream Social Membership Drive! Details next week.

Joanne and Jim Simpson and the Polson Senior Center will present: "Living in America: An Immigrant Story of Haiti: From Slavery to the 21st Century" by Mr. Turnier Esperance. Turnier will share the unique story of Haiti at the center on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Those interested may also join us via Zoom; email haitiansportsfoundation@gmail.com for a zoom link to the presentation.

AARP Driver Class (no test!) will keep you current on safety for aging drivers. The next class is Sept. 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the center and is mostly a video presentation with a written guide booklet and a group leader. The cost is $25 with discounts for AARP Members.

Flu and/or pneumonia shots are free to those with a Medicare card and available from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 28 at the center.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; pinochle, noon-3 p.m. Thursdays; bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays ($100 payout on blackouts), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday (Sept. 1) and third Tuesday (Sept. 19) of each month.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays; a suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program. The menu is posted each week at the center; call before 10 a.m. for deliveries.

Upcoming main dishes include ham and potato casserole, Aug. 31; eggs Benedict, Sept. 1; spaghetti, Sept. 5; baked chicken, Sept. 6; tacos, Sept. 7; and pork chops, Sept. 8.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at 504 3rd Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735 or email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com.
