Ordinance needed to curb smash-ups

An ordinance that the Town Council should adopt and put into effect is that of automobiles and other vehicles turning around in the middle of the street. Some real smash-ups might occur and someone will be seriously hurt if the practice is not stopped. In the ordinance should be included that of parking all vehicles on the right side of the street. The ordinance should be strictly enforced.

Clairmont place reports high yield

One of the biggest yields of wheat to the acre is reported to us from the Henry Clairmont place northeast of Ronan. The yield was 49 bushels per acre, and on 37 acres Mr. Clairmont got 1,817 bushels of Turkey Red wheat.

Dairymen discuss consolidation of valley creameries

A special meeting of the Lake County Dairymen’s association and the Mission Valley Dairymen was held Sunday at the Post Creek pavilion for the principal purpose of discussing the feasibility of consolidating creameries at Ronan, Charlo and St. Ignatius into one unit. Geo. W. Johnson, county extension agent of Ronan, was chairman for the day.

He stressed the importance of the dairymen’s industry in the Flathead valley. He declared that he wished to correct any rumor that the proposed consolidation was for any other purpose than to permit better business conditions in the Flathead valley.

Charlo man killed in Pacific

In a list of 75 U.S. soldiers killed in action, given by the war department on Friday, was the name of Corporal Tilbert A. Fry, son of Mrs. Alice Fry Overman, of Charlo. It is reported that Cpl. Fry was killed somewhere in the Pacific area.

Cowboy jackpot on tap

A cowboy jackpot has been scheduled for Labor Day at the Pablo rodeo grounds.

Ted Clatterbuck, Ronan, is promoting the event and the stock will be furnished by the Mission Valley Rodeo Company, Ronan. Events scheduled are bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, team roping, and barrel racing.

Football practice begins in Mission

Thirty-five young athletes reported for football practice Saturday to start the season at Mission High School.

Ten lettermen are among the grid candidates as well as promising juniors and sophomores. A large turnout of freshmen was also reported.

One big loss to the team may be senior tackle Gary Black. Black injured his leg during the summer, and it hasn’t responded to treatment.

The list of lettermen back are: Seniors, Gary Blackman, Wayne Delaney, Gary Black, Don Posivio, Gene Sorrell, Ken Blush, Dennis Krantz, and Warren Scammon; Juniors, Wayne Scammon and Ken Jonasen.

“The loss of Black leaves only two tackles with much playing experience,” Coach Dave Perkins said.

After the morning practice, the boys were treated to lunch by the Girls Club.
