Vikings fall in shootout to Valley Christian

Charlo quarterback Hayden Hollow passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more but the Vikings fell to Valley Christian 43-42 because of a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Despite a nine-yard touchdown pass from Hollow to Dillon Dwelle, Valley Christian had the 12-8 lead after the first quarter. Hollow ran for a nine-yard score to give Charlo the 14-12 lead in the second quarter but the Eagles completed a 13-yard touchdown pass for the 20-14 halftime lead.

After the break Valley Christian took a 26-14 lead, but Charlo battled back with a 75-yard touchdown run by Hollow and a 39-yard scoring run by Tayre Brown. This put the Vikings up 28-26 through three quarters of play.

Valley Christian retook the lead in the fourth, and then a Hollow 12-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Anderson would knot it at 34-34. Both teams then scored touchdowns, but Charlo's two-yard touchdown run was followed by a Hollow two-point conversion run to give the Vikings the 42-40 lead. The Eagles, however, found some space between the goalposts to claim victory in a matchup that saw momentum shift several times.

Charlo outgained Valley Christian 428 to 360 total yards and rushed for 347 yards, while Valley Christian passed for 309 yards.

Hollow finished with 145 yards rushing on 21 attempts and went 6 for 20 for 81 yards in the air. Brown rushed for 135 yards and Ryan Sharbono added 51 yards to the Vikings efforts.
