Lady Bulldogs down Maidens
The girls' basketball season started last Friday, December 1, as Lake County rivals Mission and Ronan faced off on the Maidens' home court. The Lady Bulldogs were able to shoot with the hot hand, hitting 42 percent of their shots en route to a 53-38 victory over host Ronan.
Mission jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter before Ronan battled back to close the gap to 12-7 at the end of the stanza. In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs again opened a gap with a 24-10 advantage. The Maidens continued to grind, however, and trailed by 29-18 at the break.
After a long scoreless stretch in the third, Mission maintained its advantage, 36-25, heading into the fourth, where the Lady Bulldogs pulled away. Ronan shot 30.6 percent from the field and shot 5-for-20 from the free-throw line.
The Maidens also had 44 turnovers in the game, which Mission scored 26 points off of. The Lady Bulldogs' adventures in the key also proved more fruitful as they scored 32 points in that area, compared to Ronan's 22.
Both teams combined for 29 steals, with Mission getting 18 of them. Ronan did work their transition offense, getting 13 points in the open compared to the Bulldogs' two.
Kason Page and Izzy Evans each had 16 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Page also had eight steals and five assists while Evans had five steals. Ronan was led by Neveah Perez and Lauryn Buhr’s eight points. Buhr had five rebounds while Perez had six.
