Ronan Girls win Owen Invitational

The defending state champion Ronan Girls wrestling team started with a bang, winning the Polson Owen Invitational Tournament last weekend and edging out Polson, which placed second, 168-154. The Maidens picked up three first-place finishes, while Polson tallied two first-place finishes.

At 100 pounds, Ronan’s River Cote defeated Polson’s Ciri Nice in the championship as both wrestlers pinned two to advance through the bracket. At 103 pounds, Polson’s Avari Stone placed third, notching three falls after an opening-round loss.

Polson’s Areaya Nelson placed first at 114 pounds, collecting two pins along the way. Ronan’s Amanda Webster was third in the same weight bracket, notching two pins, while Polson’s Sara Cross was fifth, also pinning two.

At 120 pounds, Ronan’s Gracie Fullmer was second with two pins, while Polson’s Arielle Mihara was fifth with three pins.

Katie Dolence placed first in the 126-pound bracket, notching three pins and defeating Frenchtown’s Rebel Montanez 14-0 in the championship bout. Polson’s Shyloh Huffine was sixth with two pins.

Ronan’s Brynn Courville won the 132-pound bracket, pinning three and defeating Lake City’s Madi Cook with a 3:31 championship pin. Teammate Destiny Finley placed fourth at 132 pounds, pinning two. At 138 pounds, Polson’s Brylie Reum was third with three falls.

Mission/Charlo’s Aubrey Sharbono placed third at 145 pounds, collecting two falls. Ronan’s Leona Dodson How was second at 152 pounds, pinning two. Polson’s Harli Kinney placed third in the same bracket, recording three falls and defeating Polson’s Venessa Wheeler in the 3rd-4th place match. Wheeler had two pins in the tournament.

Mission/Charlo’s Meadow Ragen placed third in 165 pounds with two pins.

At 185 pounds, Polson’s Abigail Sorrell placed first with three pins, downing teammate Jaliyah Pierre in the championship match. Pierre had two falls in the tournament.

Ronan’s Tirza Two Teeth placed first at 235 pounds, notching two pins and defeating teammate Judasha Ellsworth in the championship match.

    At 100 pounds, Polson’s Ciri Nice placed second, losing to Ronan’s River Cote in the championship. (Bob Gunderson photo)
